WHAT IS WALK-A-THON?

Walk-A-Thon is our PTA's largest fundraiser of the school year. The funds raised during Walk-A-Thon directly pour back into our school community through events, resources, and programs.

HOW DO WE SPEND OUR MONEY?

ENHANCE ACADEMIC FOCUS -  We work closely with educators to support innovative teaching methods and ensure that our students have access to the necessary resources for a truly enriching learning experience. Together, we will fund and promote programs like Student Leadership, Character Development, Academic Nights, Book Fair, Great American Teach-In, and Art and Music Programs.

STRENGTHEN SCHOOL COMMUNITY BONDS -  We believe that a sense of belonging is essential for our children's growth and happiness. To achieve this, we will organize various events, workshops, and activities that bring parents, teachers, students, and the wider community together. We fund events such as Veterans Day Program, Multicultural Night, Grandparents Day, Kindergarten Roundup, Fall Festival, and Parent Night Out.

SCHOOL SAFETY -  We advocate for your children's welfare, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment. We will focus on important areas such as School Safety, Gorrie Grows, Sustainability, and Walk to School Wednesday to achieve this goal.

PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT -  We will encourage and facilitate increased parental engagement in school activities, volunteering opportunities, and decision-making processes. Parent support and participation are invaluable, whether through PTA memberships, Committee Participation, Classroom Helpers, New Family Orientation, or the Info Fair.

COMMUNICATION -  The key to fostering a strong partnership between the school, parents, and teachers is through effective communication. We are committed to improving communication channels, promoting transparency, understanding, and cooperation. You can expect to receive regular updates and announcements through Newsflash, Gorrie’s website, Social Media, and emails.

TEACHER SUPPORT- Teachers play a pivotal role in shaping our children's future.  We support their growth and dedication, by collaborating with the school administration to identify and provide professional development opportunities for teachers. We also organize events to recognize their hard work and dedication, such as Staff Appreciation initiatives and funding for teacher training.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIOUSNESS -  We encourage eco-friendly practices within the school and the community by funding and raising awareness about sustainability through site improvements, campus beautification, and various green initiatives.

DIVERSITY - We believe in embracing the unique backgrounds, cultures, and talents of our students and their families. Throughout the year, we will host events like Multicultural Night and offer support to families in need.
